SF Sambar powder is a South Indian style coarse textured spices powder, prepared by grinding various spices such as coriander seeds, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, black peppercorns, dry red chilies, fenugreek seeds with toor dal, chana dal and urad dal. This freshly-made aromatic powder is used in the preparation of the popular and delicious South Indian dish Sambar, a broth made with vegetables and cooked lentils flavoured with tamarind pulp and sambhar powder. Sambar is taken with rice, dosa, idli and vada. 

Recipe for Sambar using SF Sambar Powder:

  • Boil desired amount of Toor dhal and set aside. 
  • In a pan, add 2 table spoons of oil and add mustard seeds, quarter tea spoon of urad dhal, desired vegetables, cut tomatoes, tamarind juice, required amount of SF Sambar Powder and salt to taste. 

  • Cook the mixture for 15 mins until vegetables are well cooked. 

  • Add the boiled toor dhal to the mixture, set to cook for 5-7 mins. Garnish with chopped curry leaves and coriander leaves. 

Tasty Sambar is ready to serve!
